Headed up by Professor Kamlesh Khunti, we work with clinical, academic and industrial investigators to design and deliver high quality real world evidence studies.

As an academic unit, we are funded by University of Leicester with additional matched funding from other academic departments and bodies, including the NIHR Leicester Biomedical Research Centre and NIHR Applied Research Collaboration - East Midlands (ARC-EM). We are located within the grounds of the University of Leicester NHS Trust (Leicester General Hospital) and hosted by University of Leicester.

Our Philosophy

All real world evidence makes use of real world data. Although there is no fixed definition of real world data, there are six key characteristics common to all real world data in the healthcare setting:

Our Commitment

We are committed to harnessing the power of real world data and delivering robust studies in a number of research areas, including, but not limited to:

  • Effectiveness and safety of different drugs, in different patient groups, in particular different ethnic groups

  • Phenotype, trajectories, trends, outcomes, complications and prognosis for different diseases

  • Development and validation of prediction models for health outcomes

  • Costs and cost-effectiveness of different preventive and management interventions

We are currently working on a number of projects, including ERICAS (Evidence Review on Cardiometabolic Observational Studies), Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD), Pragmatic Trials, Systematic reviews and meta-analysis, and Health Economic Modelling.

We offer the following services:

  • Deliver bespoke statistical analyses

  • Provide statistical training, advice and support

  • Assist in the assessment and interpretation of results

Our Team

Our team includes experts in database epidemiology, prognostic modelling, decision modelling, evidence synthesis and systematic review as well as clinical experts. Since 2018, we have published over 800 peer-reviewed papers.
